The Lapidary Room contains Slab Saws, Trim Saws and various grinding wheels to help you cut, shape and polish your stone.

Slab Saws

We have an 18″ and 24″ Slab Saws. These are equipped with diamond saw blades that are used to cut your large rough material into slabs for trimming, shaping and polishing. These saws use mineral oil for cooling and lubrication during the cutting process.
You maybe be asked to check and clean the centrifugal filter before using the saw.
Always check with an instructor before using the saw. An instructor must check your setup before your are allowed to operate the saw.
Trim Saws

Various 10″ Trim Saws
These saws are for cutting slab sections into smaller pieces such as cabachoons.

Hi-Tech 4″ – 5″ Trim Saw
Used for cutting gem grade material. The Hi-Tech Diamond 4″/5″ Trim Saw is a versatile, American-made tool designed for precision trimming of cabochon preforms, facet material, and glass. With a variable-speed 1/4 HP motor (800-3,400 rpm) provides precise control. A built-in coolant reservoir with splash guard minimizes mess and keeps the blade running smoothly.

Covington two Station Grinder with 8″ Hard Diamond wheels

Covington two Station Grinder with 8″ Resin Wheels for polishing surfaces like cabochons with rounded edges. Wheels up to 50,000 grit are available.
